Ingredients
- Broken Wheat (Gothambu Nurukku): 1 cup
- Carrot: 1 small, chopped
- Beans: 5, chopped
- Ginger: 1 tsp, crushed
- Green Chili: 1, chopped
- Curry Leaves: 1 sprig
- Dry Red Chili: 2
- Big Onion: 1 small, chopped finely
- Salt: to taste
- Water: 3 cups
- Mustard Seeds: ½ tsp
- Urad Dal: ¼ tsp
- Vegetable Oil: 1 tbsp
Method
- Prepare the Broken Wheat:
- Thoroughly wash the broken wheat 3-4 times.
- Soak it in hot water for 30 minutes.
- Add the soaked wheat to a pressure cooker along with 3 cups of water and salt.
- Cook on medium flame for 3 whistles. Once done, allow the pressure to release naturally.
- Prepare the Tempering:
- Heat oil in a pan and splutter mustard seeds.
- Add dry red chilies and urad dal, frying them one by one.
- Saute the Vegetables:
- Add crushed ginger, salt, chopped onion, green chili, and curry leaves to the pan.
- Saute for 1 minute.
- Add chopped carrot and beans, and continue to saute for 2 minutes on medium flame.
- Combine and Cook:
- Add the cooked broken wheat to the pan with the vegetables.
- Mix well, check the salt, and cook for an additional 5 minutes on low flame, stirring occasionally.
- Optionally, sprinkle 1 tsp of sugar for a slight sweetness.
- Serve:
- Let it sit for 10 minutes before serving.
- Serve hot with banana, chutney, or any curry of your choice.
