Ingredients

  • Tuna (canned): 200 grams (1 small can)
  • Onion: 2 (finely chopped)
  • Green chili: 2 (finely chopped)
  • Ginger-garlic: 2 tsp (crushed)
  • Black pepper powder: 1 tsp
  • Garam masala powder: a pinch
  • Coriander leaves: 1 tbsp
  • Potato (boiled): 1 (remove the skin and mash it)
  • All-purpose flour: ½ cup
  • Egg whites: 2 (whisked with a little salt)
  • Bread crumbs: 1 cup
  • Salt: to taste
  • Oil: 2 tbsp + for deep frying

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Tuna Mixture

  1. Drain the liquid from the tuna and set it aside.
  2. Heat 2 tablespoons of oil in a pan, add the finely chopped onions and a pinch of salt. Sauté until the onions are soft.
  3. Add the chopped green chilies and crushed ginger-garlic to the pan. Sauté until the raw smell disappears.
  4. Stir in the black pepper powder and garam masala powder. Cook for a minute.
  5. Add the drained tuna to the pan and cook for 3-4 minutes over low flame. Stir in the coriander leaves, combine well, and remove from heat. Let the mixture cool to room temperature.

Step 2: Form the Cutlets

  1. Once the mixture has cooled, add the mashed potato to the tuna mixture and combine evenly.
  2. Divide the mixture into 12-14 balls. Press each ball lightly to form the shape of a cutlet.

Step 3: Coat the Cutlets

  1. Take each cutlet and roll it in all-purpose flour.
  2. Dip the floured cutlet in the whisked egg whites.
  3. Coat the cutlet with bread crumbs. For extra crispiness, dip it again in egg white and then coat it with bread crumbs once more. Repeat the process with the remaining cutlets.

Step 4: Fry the Cutlets

  1. Heat oil in a deep pan over medium flame.
  2. Fry the tuna cutlets in the hot oil until they are golden brown and crispy, turning occasionally to ensure even cooking.
  3. Move the fried cutlets to a paper towel to drain excess oil.

Step 5: Serve

  1. Serve the crispy tuna cutlets hot with tomato ketchup or your favorite dipping sauce.

Serving Suggestions

Enjoy these crispy Tuna Cutlets as a delicious snack or appetizer. They pair perfectly with tomato ketchup, mint chutney, or a tangy yogurt dip. Serve them at parties, gatherings, or as a delightful evening snack with a hot cup of tea.
